Illegal Cancer-Causing Chemicals Found in Nearly 100 Shampoo Brands

Cosmetics like shampoo can be more harmful to your health, even more than you might think. Many shampoo brands have dangerous chemicals in their composition that can hurt your health and cause cancer!

The Center for Environmental Health based in Oakland, California, conducted a study on shampoos and soaps and discovered that 98 included a possible carcinogen known as cocamide diethanolamine (cocamide DEA).

Cocamide Diethanolamine, a controversial ingredient detected in body care items, has prompted four personal care companies to get sued in California region.

The Center for Environmental Health filed the suit because they discovered cocamide DEA, the foam stabilizer, and volumizer, in shampoos and soaps. In the state of California, Proposition 65 orders companies to warn consumers about the risks of certain dangerous substances. Cocamide DEA is one of those substances because it is associated with cancer. The chemical was banned in the state last year because a study discovered that it caused cancer in laboratory animals.

Well-known companies sell products that contain high levels of this illegal chemical such as Paul Mitchell, Colgate Palmolive, and Prell. Lab tests also discovered the carcinogen in children’s products, like the KMart’s store-brand bubble bath, and a shampoo/conditioner from Babies R Us. Other store brand products that contain the chemical came from Kohl’s, Trader Joe’s, and Walmart.

The worst part is, corporations can put toxic chemicals into shampoos because the FDA permits all sorts of chemicals to be applied in these products, including carcinogens that contribute to liver failure and nervous system disorders.
