The US Government and Bayer Supposedly Gave HIV to Thousands of Children

It is an outrage to imagine that a company could give children a medicine that they knew might give them HIV!

The sad part is the government that should protect us not only knew what was happening but was also involved.

Many people take Bayer aspirin daily. This drug became part of people’s routine. Bayer AG is a big corporation, and they produce a huge range of products from pesticides to medicine for hemophiliacs called Factor 8.

In 1984 an outbreak of HIV ravaged hemophiliac children. The issue was traced all the way back to Bayer. Bayer knew their Factor 8 was contaminated with HIV, and they were prohibited from selling it in the U.S. market.

However, Bayer gained permission from the FDA to sell the contaminated medicine to other countries such as Argentina, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia after February 1984.

The NY Times obtained documents showing how Cutter Biological, which is a division of Bayer, exported more than 100,000 vials of unheated concentrate before they began selling the safer product again.

Bayer infected thousands of innocent children and adults, even causing death. Nothing has happened to punish Bayer for their criminal acts. Countries that allowed Bayer to sell contaminated products were held accountable for their terrible decisions.

But the real offenders, Bayer and the U.S. FDA, did not take responsibility. In fact, they both continued their corrupted work without the need to justify themselves or even comment on the issue.

The justification Bayer gave was weak. In their statement, they said, ”Decisions made nearly two decades ago were based on the best scientific information of the time and were consistent with the regulations in place.”

In other words, Bayer stated they had permission from FDA to sell their infected drugs elsewhere for profits. The NY Times also reported that Dr. Harry M. Meyer Jr, a regulator of blood products at the Food and Drug Administration, suggested that this problem was better to be “quietly solved without alerting the Congress, the medical community, and the public.”

At this stage, no one had been charged in regards to this matter with Factor 8 in 1984.

Bayer, the FDA, and similar corrupted corporations and governments branches cause (and have caused) significant harm to people. And even in these terrible cases, they are not held accountable.

Instead, the issue is swept under the rug in the hopes the problem will go away. And in most cases, it does because good people often lack the resources and voice to stand up for crimes committed by those in superior positions who should protect us and care for our well-being, rather than profit from our pain.
