These Powerful Illustrations Show How Backwards Today’s Society Really Is

Gavin Nascimento, founder of aNewKindOfHuman.com, believes that artists reveal truth in the world that we all live in. Nascimento argues that personal creativity results in deeper and more meaningful communication, or, more specifically, he contends that human thoughts, feelings, and language all require personal creativity in order to be fully realized.

Nascimento titled one of his collections “Art Should Comfort the Disturbed and Disturb the Comfortable,” which (I think) means that art should always drastically alter the viewer’s—or the experiencer’s—perspectives. Depending on each unique individual, their viewpoints may turned on their heads (as the title of the collection implies), or their perceptions may simply be tweaked in such a way that enables the individual to obtain a more extensive or meaningful understanding of something significant in life.

Through his artwork, Nascimento asserts that choice is an allusion, that modern athletes are merely advertisers (or advertisements!), and that drug abuse is a result of attempting to escape pain rather than trying to experience happiness. Although I don’t agree with these insights 100% of the way, I certainly appreciate them, and I definitely take their points. As mentioned, each unique individual is just that, so I don’t feel as though Nascimento expects (or wants) all human beings to share is perspectives precisely or completely.

Furthermore, Nascimento illustrates that “the system” has become mankind’s god, that human apathy has practically caused homeless people to become invisible, and that many serious global crises are merely crises of greed and apathy. Again, in my opinion, Nascimento is saying much more than he has physically composed, but what little he has clearly articulated sums up these universal issues as perfectly as can be expected.

However, please recall the recurring theme of each unique individual needing to experience and interpret these ideas differently and personally—and think about this all for yourself.
