Japan has a long history of developing artistic healing techniques. Jin Shin Jyutsu is another example of this: An art designed to release tensions that develop in our body. These tensions are believed to be the cause of illnesses, blocking the free flow of energy through our bodies.

Similar to what we know about chakras or the meridian system of Chinese medicine, Jin Shin Jyutsu helps to awaken our awareness of our bodies. With this awareness, we can find harmony and balance. With harmony and balance, we may find health.

The premise of Jin Shin Jyutsu is a set of 26 points, called “Safety Energy Locks” or SEL for short. These 26 points lie along energy pathways in the body, and show where energy tends to stagnate.

Master Jiro Murai, a philosopher and healer, is said to be the re-discoverer of Jin Shin Jyutsu. He found evidence of its ancient healing practices in the early 20th century.

Jin Shin Jyutsu practitioners use their hands like “jumper cables” to hold a combination of SELs. With a minimum of effort from the healer, the SELs are gently released. This leads to a corresponding release of pent up energy, restoring balance and health.
