There are times when you come across a story that is so beautiful, and too hard to believe, you think of it as some kind of fairy tale. Well Japanese Diver Hiroyuki Arakawa has been visiting the same fish for 25 years now. Arakawa has been entrusted to look over one of Shinto religion’s shrines called torii, located beneath the surface of Japan’s Tateyama Bay.

This is from the first encounter they had together after Hiroyuki was entrusted to look after the shrine.

As the years passed, he got to know some of the sea life that had made the shrine their home. Most importantly being Yoriko, a friendly Asian sheepshead wrasse. In a recent scientific study, it was shown that fish can recognize a human’s face. “Scientists present the fish with two images of human faces and trained them to choose one by spitting their jets at the picture. The researchers decided to make things a little harder. They took the pictures and made them black and white and evened out the head shapes. You think it would throw the fish for a loop, but no, they were still able to pick the familiar face with 86% accuracy.” This makes Hiroyuki and Yorkiro’s friendship even more inspirational and beautiful.
