This Syrup Will Stop a Cough Dead in its Tracks – Ginger Thyme Cough Syrup

Thyme can be used as various topical products because it is a powerful and effective disinfectant. It can also be used internally to help fight off infections!

The herb is considered one of the best herbal cold remedies. It’s often consumed to ward off colds and as a rinse to treat a sore throat and oral infections.

You can make excellent teas with Thymes to treat coughs and chest complaints. It can be used in antifungal remedies too. Thyme is antioxidants rich, most plants are, and has a particularly tonic effect, supporting normal body functions.

Ginger-Thyme Mix To Help With Coughs

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup raw local Honey
  • 1 1/2 cups of Water (you might end up adding another 1/2 cup depending upon consistency)
  • 2 handfuls fresh thyme
  • 1 knuckle of ginger minced

Preparations:

  1. Place the thyme and ginger into a pot.
  2. Add water and bring to the boil.
  3. Simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  4. Add raw honey and stir gently.
  5. Rest the syrup for 30-60 minutes, then strain.

At this point, you may choose to store it or take the next step. Put the filtered syrup back on the heat and bring to a boil remove from heat let cool and then bottle the syrup. Store in fridge.

On a side note, some people suggest not heating the honey as it can interfere with its medicinal properties. Furthermore, when it comes to honey, you might want to consider highly medical versions such as manuka with proven health benefits. It might be more expensive than conventional honey varieties, but you get for more bang for your buck.

How to use:

  • Adults 3-5 tablespoons per day
  • Children 3-5 teaspoons per day
