You Won’t Believe The Extraordinary Benefits Of Bathing In Epsom Salts

For hundreds of years, civilizations have used Epsom salts to improve health and wellbeing, keep reading to see how you can too!

You can use Epsom salts in many ways such as household cleaning, gardening, and detoxifying the body. Their affordability makes them appealing to the masses, and you can buy Epsom salts at almost any garden centers for bulk discounts.

Epsom salts come from a bitter saline spring at Epsom in Surrey, England. Epsom is not similar to traditional salts. These salts are a pure mineral compound of sulfate and magnesium which enhances the detoxification abilities of the body.

How An Epsom Salt Bath Works

Our body easily absorbs sulfate and magnesium through the skin and into the body’s bloodstream. Our skin is a highly porous membrane that absorbs in minerals and eliminates toxins every day. If you use Epsom salts in a bath, it will create a process called reverse osmosis. What it means is your body will pull out salt and toxins, and it will allow the magnesium and sulfate to enter the body.

Magnesium plays a critical role in over 325 enzymes. It also reduces inflammation, promotes better muscle and nerve function, and improves blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body. Sulfates are the building blocks for healthy skin, joints, and nervous tissue. Epsom salts provide the body’s sulfates and magnesium levels. These two minerals are essential to eliminate harmful toxins from the body and at the same time they play a significant role in building key protein molecules in joints and brain tissue.

Regular Epsom salt baths can improve the symptoms of many health problems such as toenail fungus, sprains, bruises, athlete’s foot, gout, and muscle soreness. People who are suffering or dealing with chronic pain or chronic disease can see benefits of doing regular Epsom baths because it will help detoxify and de-inflame while improving mineral and sulfur balance in the body.

It is not recommended to use Epsom baths if you are pregnant, have open wounds, are dehydrated or have burns on your skin. People who suffer from cardiovascular disease must first ask a natural health physician who is familiar with the health benefits of Epsom salt baths before starting.

How To Take An Epsom Salt Bath

Allow 40 minutes to sit in a tub because in the first 20 minutes your body begins to eliminate toxins from the body and the other 20 minutes your body will absorb the minerals from the warm water. Don’t bath in tap water as it contains chlorine, fluoride, dioxins and heavy metals. Instead, try to use filtered water by installing a carbon filter to your mains so all the nastys get taken away before they get to you.

The amount of Epsom salts to add in your bath are:

Children under 60 lbs: Add 1/2 cup of salts to a standard size bath
Individuals between 60-100 lbs: Add 1 cup of salts to a standard size bath
Individuals between 100-150 lbs: Add 1 1/2 cup of salts to a standard size bath
Individuals between 150-200 lbs: Add 2 cups of salts to a standard size bath
For every 50lbs larger – add in an additional 1/2 cup of salts.

Additional Strategies To Apply With An Epsom Salt Bath

If you want to give your skin a treat, add 1/2 cup of olive oil to the filtered bath water because the polyphenols from the oil will give your skin extra antioxidant benefits. If you add 1 tbsp to 1/2 cup of ginger or cayenne to the bath, it will increase your heart levels which make you sweat more and with that more toxins will be eliminated from your body. Also, these herbs are loaded with antioxidants that will enhance the detoxification process as well.

It’s important to note that it is not recommended to use soap with an Epsom salt bath because the soap interferes with the work of the minerals and the detoxification process. If you can, rest for an hour or two afterward, but if you have arthritic joints, you will need to stay active as much as possible to prevent congestion in the joints.
