In the modern day world, we too often underestimate our abilities as humans. We perceive ourselves to just be creatures on earth far too often, but that’s not what we are at all.
Nobody really knows why we’re here, how we got here, and what we are supposed to be doing. But, if I had to guess, I’d definitely say that it has something to do with the metaphysical world. Most people would actually, because we are connected to a super infinite part of the cosmos – and we have very special abilities that come from it too. Monks dedicate their entire lives to contacting and harnessing these supernatural cosmos derived powers. Swami Rama talks much about the real powers of humans in his book, titled ‘Living with the Himalayan Masters.’ He wrote;
“I had never before seen a man who could sit still without blinking his eyelids for eight to ten hours, but this adept was very unusual. He levitated two and a half feet during his meditations. We measured this with a string, which was later measured by a foot rule. I would like to make it clear, though, as I have already told you, that I don’t consider levitation to be a spiritual practice. It is an advanced practice of pranayama with an application of bandeaus (locks). One who knows about the relationship between mass and weight understands that it is possible to levitate, but only after long practice. . .
He (also) had the power to transform matter into different forms, like changing a rock into a sugar cube. One after another the next morning he did many such things. He told me to touch the sand – and the grains of sand turned into almonds and cashews. I had heard of this science before and knew its basic principles, but I had hardly believed such stories. I did not explore this field, but I am fully acquainted with the governing laws of science.”
Once we are able to fully master our consciousness, we can start to manipulate our subconscious. The human mind is large, mystical, and mysterious. With tons of dedication and hard work, one can fully achieve the supernatural capabilities derived from the cosmos. It has been heavily studied in Buddhist cultures for thousands of years. According to them, the existence of advanced powers is readily acknowledged. Buddha actually expects his disciples to be able to contact these inner abilities.
Donald Lopez is a professor of Buddhism at the University of Michigan. He specializes in Buddhist teachings and Tibetan Studies. He describes;
“With this enlightenment, he was believed to possess all manner of supernormal powers, including full knowledge of each of his own past lives and those of other beings, the ability to know others’ thoughts, the ability to create doubles of himself, the ability to rise into the air and simultaneously shoot fire and water from his body. . . . Although he passed into nirvana at the age of eighty-one, he could have lived “for an eon or until the end of the eon” if only he had been asked to do so.”
Monks and their abilities have been studied by prestigious universities also. Harvard professor of Medicine Herbert Benson studied monks living in the Himalayas with his team of researchers. They witnessed monks who were able to raise the temperatures of their fingers and toes by as much as 17 degrees. Additionally, in 1985, the Harvard researchers made a video of monks spending winter nights 15,000 feet high in the Himalayan mountains.
Conclusion? Humans have much more power than you think. You just have to try very hard to harness to abilities brought forth by the cosmos. Humans are worth so much more than building architectural masterpieces of making the most money; we are powerful, in-depth, spiritual creatures with massive metaphysical abilities. It’s not science fiction – its facts!
