Check out this new species called “the ninja lanternshark” that was just discovered.
The unique black shark is quickly spreading throughout social media. It is still being studied for its capabilities, but thus far what we do know is fairly impressive.
According to CBC citing the scientist who made the discovery, “The inky-black fish already has the camouflage of darkness in the deepsea levels. But it’s also covered in photophores — tiny dots that can emit light, cloaking the fish in a bluish glow and making it invisible to prey or predators below.”
This incredible fish was introduced to the world just last week. The first one, however, was found back in 2010 by Miguel Oliver off the coast of Central America in 2010. Several others have been found since then.
Currently there are around 440 species of shark but this, like so many other animals, fish, mammals and insects, continues to grow. In fact, new discoveries are made by scientists daily in relation to new life.
